PRM Logistics pilots the latest in voice activated warehouse picking systems

16th October 2007

PRM Logistics is one of the largest independent chilled and frozen food sales and distribution companies in Ireland. Its strength lies in providing a route to market throughout the island of Ireland to every retail sector. The company operates 364 days per year, distributing over 250,000 cases of product per week. Due to the phenomenal growth of the business, the company required an innovative method of controlling and improving order picking. The solution, provided by ICS Computing, is the introduction of voice activated picking, which will boost the speed and productivity of warehouse staff.

Voice activated warehouse picking systems are at the leading edge in improving efficiencies and reducing costs in warehousing. It replaces the more traditional warehouse process of paper lists or barcode scanning with computer based voice commands, which direct the warehouse picker to select the appropriate product and correct quantity in preparation for shipment. While dramatically improving the speed of picking and at the same time reducing errors, all in a paperless environment, the system results in significant savings for those companies implementing the new technology.

The system whilst being relatively new to Northern Ireland is in use by some of the World's largest retailers including the ASDA chain.
